CHAPTER 1 - CAROLINE ISSA

In Their Hands presents a series of handcrafted objects created in collaboration with artisans. Each piece carries the memory of touch, the precision of material, and the rhythm of everyday making.

In Vietnam, the ritual of Thôi Nôi marks a child’s first year of life. During the ceremony, a small collection of objects is placed before the child, each symbolizing a possible future: a brush for creativity, a book for knowledge, a tool for craft. The object the child chooses is believed to reveal a glimpse of their path ahead.

This act of choosing, simple yet symbolic, mirrors the spirit of this project. Each collaborator, artisan, or creative is invited to select an object that resonates with their practice, their hands, and their story. Through these choices, the collection forms a constellation of personal meanings and shared gestures, connecting tradition with contemporary creation.

In Their Hands speaks to more than the artisans and collaborators. It extends to all hands that touch, hold, and carry meaning. These objects are shaped not only by those who create them, but also by those who choose them, use them, and keep them close. Each piece becomes part of a wider circle of connection, where making and receiving are acts of care, and where every hand leaves its quiet trace.

Born as a Brooch is the statement piece that opened In Their Hands, Chapter One, created in collaboration with Caroline Issa, Chief Executive and Creative Director of Tank Magazine. The brooch is made from 925 sterling silver and designed as a bold, sculptural pin. Only ten limited edition pieces were created for the launch in London, and each one is available for purchase now. Every brooch is presented in a hand-carved wooden jewelry box with a black lacquer finish and wrapped in silk woven in Vietnam.
